I didn't take the class they offered when I bought my machine, partly because it was a 45 minute drive away, and partly because I didn't want to look stupid in front of people. As a consequence, I have no clue how to use my machine to make buttonholes and am now thinking I should have done the class. I contributed to the crowdfunding for Susan Crawford's book. There was no way I could resist since I've been in the museum in Lerwick and looked at the knitting collection there. I remember thinking at the time how nice it would be if some of the patterns were available. If I were you I would get the book now. I suspect it is going to be very popular, and who knows if she will be able to do another print run once the first is gone.kristieinbchttp://journeynorthof49.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4736035637103377628.post-43981130238161351022015-07-11T03:26:35.000-07:002015-07-11T03:26:35.000-07:00I wish I'd known about that fabric store when ...I wish I'd known about that fabric store when I was commuting to Worcester every day for work and taking the Auburn exit off the Pike . . . Part of me understands it's a phase kids (mostly boys!) go through, and O and his friends do campfires responsibly ... HOWEVER, they're doing it where they shouldn't be. I didn't know about the risk of breathing in the poisoned smoke, either. What I would say though, is instead of worring about existing projects is get some scraps of fabric and just play with the machine settings, button holes, zips for no good reason you should find that if what you are producing isn't 'important' to get right, you should be more relaxed and get familiar with the settings before working on your projects.

TracyTracy Harrishttp://www.musingsofacraftenthusiast.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4736035637103377628.post-58098404060116845192015-06-23T04:45:45.000-07:002015-06-23T04:45:45.000-07:00That's good advice, Tracy, thank you. I have several machines, and the ones I've used most are the "basic ones," like the Singer 99 from Scotland, straight stitch only, that can sew through leather, denim, and upholstery fabric without a hiccup. But yeah, the features like automatic threading and adjustable speed control should make one want to sew more. In theory. ;-)Diananoreply@blogger.com
